Soundwalk
An exploratory and immersive journey through some of the key sites of Milan’s Monte Stella Park and the Garden of the Righteous. Through historical and archival research and the collection of interviews with park users and residents of the QT8 neighborhood, a narrative reworking was created to guide the audience along a path that, through a play of overlapping planes of reality, oscillates between close observation of the landscape and urban nature and reflection on themes connected to it, as well as on certain issues of contemporaneity.
The project focuses in particular on the concept of the “righteous,” questioning what it means to “be righteous,” with reference to the history and events that led to the design and realization of the Garden of the Righteous.
What narratives does a place contain? How can a place embody certain values? How does a place transform? How can language, in relation to the landscape, act as a trigger for new narratives? How can a place initiate a dialogue?
From these questions emerged a dramaturgy that seeks to probe the subjective perception of this place, inserting imaginary and fantastical elements into a real context, in a continuous oscillation between truth and fiction.
Participants, who will be provided with wireless headphones, guided by the voices of the actors, will experience an itinerary that—also thanks to the recording and reworking of sounds coming from the space itself—aims to bring out the identity-defining traits that constitute the unique character of this place.
The project’s goal is to create a participatory pathway, investigating the complexity of the proposed site and its history over time, while encouraging the audience to take part in an imaginative game, immersing them in a narrative that unfolds along the park’s paths, among its trees and stones, establishing a dialogue with the place itself.
